Philip Mark Jones was a preeminent British trumpeter and a pioneer of brass
chamber music. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in 1944, where
he served as principal trumpet for several major London orchestras, including
the Royal Philharmonic (1956–1960), the Philharmonia (1960–1964), and the BBC
