Pēteris Plakidis, born on March 4, 1947, in Riga, Latvian SSR, Soviet Union, was
a Latvian composer and pianist. He studied at the Emīls Dārziņš College of Music
and graduated from the Jāzeps Vītols State Conservatory in 1970. Plakidis served
as musical director for the Latvian National Theatre from 1969 to 1974. His
compositions, including Music for Piano, String Orchestra and Timpani (1969) and
Variations for Orchestra (1996), were frequently performed by the Latvian
National Symphony Orchestra. He received several awards, notably the Jānis
