Pietro Rugolo, known professionally as Pete Rugolo, was born on December 25,
1915 in San Piero Patti, Sicily, Kingdom of Italy. He emigrated to the United
States in 1920 and grew up in Santa Rosa, California. He began his musical
career playing the baritone horn but soon expanded to other instruments,
including the French horn and piano. Rugolo received a bachelor's degree from
San Francisco State College and went on to study composition with Darius Milhaud
