Pesniary, a popular Soviet Belarusian folk rock group, was founded in 1968 by
guitarist Vladimir Mulyavin. Initially known as Liavony, the band began to gain
traction and changed its name to Pesniary before 1970. Their music combined
various genres but primarily focused on Belarusian folklore with rock elements.
In 1973, they participated in the Soviet television film This Merry Planet and
became one of the few Soviet bands to tour America in 1976, performing with folk
