William Bunch, known as Peetie Wheatstraw, was born on December 21, 1902, in Ripley, Tennessee. He was an American St. Louis blues musician who began his career in the late 1920s after moving to East St. Louis, Illinois. Wheatstraw started recording in 1930 with "Tennessee Peaches Blues", a duet with Neckbones. His distinctive vocal style and idiosyncratic piano playing made him a popular figure in the St. Louis blues scene.
