Pedro Jóia (born May 30, 1970) was a Portuguese fado and flamenco guitarist and
composer from Liège, Belgium. Jóia began playing guitar at age seven and entered
the Conservatório Nacional de Música at age 14. At 16, he studied flamenco
guitar with Paco Peña and Gerardo Núñez. He began performing professionally at
age 19 throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. Jóia released his debut
album, Guadiano, in 1996. He taught at the Universidade de Évora from 1997 to
2003 and lived in Brazil until 2008, where he performed with Ney Matogrosso and
