Paul Nieman, born in June 1950 in Hampstead, London, is a British trombonist
known for his work in avant-garde jazz. He studied at the Polytechnic Institute
in Chiswick and later at the Guildhall School of Music from 1969 to 1972. During
this time, Nieman played with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and collaborated
with notable musicians such as Mike Westbrook on Metropolis (1971), George
Harrison, and the London Jazz Composers’ Orchestra on Ode (1972). He also worked
with Paul Rutherford on Sequences 72 & 74, John Surman, Keith Tippett, Stan
Tracey, John Dankworth, Gil Evans, ...
