Adolphe Paul Barbarin, also known as Paul Barbarin, was born on May 5, 1899, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was an American drummer raised in a musical family. He joined bands like the Young Olympia Band alongside Sidney Bechet, initially playing clarinet before transitioning to drums. In 1917, he moved to Chicago, playing with local bands and working with Freddie Keppard and Jimmie Noone. From 1925 to 1927, he was a member of King Oliver's band.
