Patrice Munsel was an American coloratura soprano who was born as Patrice
Beverly Munsil in 1925. She studied in New York City under Giacomo Spadoni and
made a professional debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1943 as Philine in
Ambroise Thomas’s Mignon. At age 18, she became the youngest singer to debut at
the Metropolitan Opera, where she performed 225 times. Munsel is famous for her
roles as Adele in Die Fledermaus and Despina in Così fan tutte. Her career
