Otis Blackwell, born on February 16, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, was an American singer and songwriter. He won a talent contest at the Apollo Theater in 1952, securing a recording contract with RCA and Jay-Dee. In 1953, he released "Daddy Rollin' Stone". Blackwell achieved notable songwriting successes by 1956, including Little Willie John's hit "Fever" (1956) and Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel" (1956).
