Ofra Harnoy is an Israeli-Canadian cellist born on January 31, 1965, in Hadera.
She moved to Toronto in 1971 and began cello lessons at age six with her father,
Jacob Harnoy. Her teachers included Vladimir Orloff, William Pleeth, Pierre
Fournier, Jacqueline du Pré, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Harnoy made her
professional debut as a soloist at age ten and had solo-orchestral and recital
debuts at Carnegie Hall in 1982. She performed the 1984 North American premiere
of the Bliss cello concerto and the 1985 world premiere of the Offenbach cello
