Odair José de Araújo, known professionally as Odair José, was born in 1948 in
Morrinhos, Goiás, Brazil. He began his musical career as a crooner during his
youth and started composing at age 17 before moving to Rio de Janeiro, where he
signed with CBS. His debut recording for the label was the track "Minhas coisas"
on the 1970 compilation As 14 mais. In 1972, he released the breakthrough album
Assim sou eu..., which featured the major hits "Eu vou tirar você deste lugar"
and "Esta noite você vai ter que ser minha". His career reached a peak of
visibility in 1973 with a self-title...
