Núbia Lafayette, born Idenilde Araújo Alves da Costa on January 21, 1937, in
Assu, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, was known as a Brazilian recording artist and
singer. She began performing at eight years old and started her career in the
late 1950s under the name Nilde Araújo. Her breakthrough came when she adopted
the stage name Núbia Lafayette in 1960, suggested by composer Adelino Moreira,
who introduced her to RCA Records. That year, she released her debut album
