Nicola Rescigno was an American conductor of Italian origin. He moved to Italy
in 1929, where he studied law and music in Rome and Frascati before returning to
New York during World War II, later completing studies at the Juilliard School.
His conducting debut followed, including a performance of La traviata at the
Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1943 during an American tour of the Teatro San
Carlo. In 1953, he participated in the founding of the Lyric Theatre of Chicago
and served as its first music director from 1954 to 1956. He notably
