Nelson Eddy
Nelson Ackerman Eddy was an American operatic baritone and actor born on June
29, 1901, in Providence, Rhode Island. A crossover star, he began his career in
musical theater and won a prestigious competition in 1924 to perform with the
Philadelphia Opera Society. Eddy signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1933 and
made his film debut in Broadway to Hollywood. He achieved international fame
through eight films costarring Jeanette MacDonald, beginning with the 1935 hit
