Nèg'Marrons is a French reggae/dancehall band formed in 1995 in
Garges‑lès‑Gonesse, Val‑d'Oise, by Ben‑J from the Republic of Congo, Djamatik
from Martinique and Jacky Brown from Cape Verde. The trio began making music in
local clubs and released the single "La Monnaie" on the soundtrack of Thomas
Gilou’s film Raï, marking their first public appearance. Their debut studio
album Rue Case Nègres followed in 1997, recorded in London with a Jamaican
rhythm section, and the title paid homage to the eponymous film important to the
