Mulamba, an all-female Brazilian band from Curitiba, was formed in December 2015
by women from various parts of Brazil. Initially a tribute act to Cássia Eller,
the group chose their name to re-signify the word "mulamba," stripping it of its
pejorative connotations and emphasizing force and leadership. Mulamba gained
traction after winning a slot at Vento Festival in São Sebastião through popular
vote, leading to the release of their self-titled debut album in November 2018.
