Montserrat Cortés Fernández, known professionally as Montse Cortés, was born in
Barcelona, Spain, in 1972, and is a gypsy flamenco singer. Growing up in the La
Mina neighborhood of San Adrián de Besós, she began her career performing in
local tablaos (flamenco venues) and accompanying dancers. Montse Cortés gained
recognition when Antonio Canales invited her to join his company, where she
