Miff Mole
Miff Mole was an American jazz trombonist and bandleader born in 1898 in
Roosevelt, New York. Born Irving Milfred Mole, he studied violin and piano as a
child before switching to the trombone at age 15. Mole played in the Acme
Sextett from 1918 to 1919 and became a member of the Original Memphis Five in
1922. Between 1926 and 1929, he and trumpeter Red Nichols led the band Miff Mole
and His Little Molers. His major recordings included the pieces “Slippin'
Around” and “Red Hot Mama” (1924), the latter featuring singer Sophie Tucker.
