Midlake, an American folk rock band from Denton, Texas, was formed in 1999 by
jazz students at the University of North Texas College of Music. Their initial
work under the name The Cornbread All-Stars was heavily influenced by funk/jazz
explorations. Midlake's debut EP Milkmaid Grand Army was released in 2001,
followed by their first full-length album Bamnan and Slivercork in 2004. The
band gained popularity in Europe, signing to Bella Union Records and playing at
