Michael Schade, born on January 23, 1965, in Geneva, is a Canadian operatic
tenor. He attended St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, the University of
Western Ontario, and earned his master's degree from the Curtis Institute of
Music. Schade began his career with notable opera companies such as the Canadian
Opera Company and the Vienna State Opera. His recording of the St. Matthew
Passion (2001), with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best
