Michael Stockwin Howard, born in 1922 in Paddington, London, England, was a
choral conductor, organist, and composer. He studied organ with G.D. Cunningham
and composition with William Alwyn at the Royal Academy of Music in London,
continuing his organ studies with Ralph Downes and Marcel Dupré. In 1944, Howard
founded The Renaissance Singers. Separately, he served as the organist at St.
Marylebone Parish Church in London from 1971 to 1979, and at St. Michael's Abbey
