Michael Harrison, born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, is an American contemporary
classical music composer and pianist. He grew up in Eugene, Oregon, and
graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.M. in Composition. Harrison
designed the "harmonic piano" in 1986, a modified grand piano capable of playing
24 notes per octave, described as a landmark in Western tuning. He has been a
serious student of Indian music under Pandit Pran Nath and Ustad Mashkoor Ali
