Michael Cleveland, born Charles Michael Cleveland on September 18, 1980, in
Henryville, Indiana, is an American bluegrass fiddle player. Born blind and with
significant hearing loss, he began playing violin at age four through a local
Suzuki program. His early talent was recognized with appearances on the Grand
Ole Opry and A Prairie Home Companion and performances before the United States
Congress. Cleveland's solo project, Flame Keeper, released in 2002, won the
International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Instrumental Album of the
