Melinda Marie Doolittle, born on October 6, 1977 in St. Louis, Missouri, is an
American singer who gained prominence as a professional backup vocalist for
various artists before her appearance on American Idol. Her career began in
earnest when she started singing professionally in 1999 after studying music at
Belmont University. Doolittle's breakthrough moment came during the sixth season
of American Idol, where she finished third. Following her stint on Idol,
