Melanie Jean Baptiste Charles, known professionally as Melanie Charles, was born
in 1988 in New York City. She is an American jazz musician, singer, flutist,
composer, and songwriter. Raised in Brooklyn with Haitian roots, she began her
musical journey at age five with piano lessons and later received vocal training
from the organist of her local church. Charles studied jazz vocals at The New
School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music, graduating in 2010. She began
