Melvin Huston McDaniel, known as Mel McDaniel, was born on September 6, 1942, in Checotah, Oklahoma, and was a country music artist. Inspired by Elvis Presley, he started playing guitar and made his professional debut at age 15. McDaniel signed with Capitol Records in 1976 and released his first single, "Have a Dream on Me".
