MC J9 (Juliano Araujo Machado) is a Brazilian funk artist from Gravataí, Rio
Grande do Sul, who built his early career in a strongly DIY way before breaking
into the São Paulo-centered funk industry. In 2020—around the time he found out
he was going to be a father—he began learning how to produce so he could create
his own songs, and early reports describe him recording and building tracks with
minimal gear, including working from a phone at home. By 2022 he was already
