Matthews’ Southern Comfort, a British country rock/folk rock band, was formed in
1970 by Ian Matthews, recruiting guitarist Mark Griffiths, guitarist Carl
Barnwell, bassist Andy Leigh, drummer Ray Duffy and pedal‑steel player Gordon
Huntley. The group issued the self‑titled debut in 1970, followed by Second
Spring and Later That Same Year later that year. Their single "Woodstock"
reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in October 1970 and peaked at number 23
