Mary Johnson
Mary Johnson, born Mary Smith Williams/Fair in Yazoo City, Mississippi, on March
29, 1898/1900, was an American singer. She began her career in St. Louis,
Missouri, where she worked with leading blues musicians during her teenage
years. In 1925, she married the blues musician Lonnie Johnson and had six
children. Her recording career spanned from 1929 to 1936, during which she
released 22 tracks, including "Western Union Blues" (1929) and "Dream Daddy
Blues" (1930). Notable accompanists on her recordings were Roosevelt Sykes,
