Martin Flämig was born on August 19, 1913, in Aue, Germany, and was a German
church musician, Protestant regional church music director, and Kreuzkantor. He
began his career as a church musician, becoming Kantor of the Matthäuskirche in
Leisnig and later at Dresden's Versöhnungskirche in 1948. In 1953, he was
appointed Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. He also taught at the
Konservatorium in Bern and led various choirs. In 1971, he succeeded Rudolf
Mauersberger as the Dresden Kreuzkantor, a position he held until 1991. He was
