Maria Bobbitt‑Chertock, known professionally as Maria BC, was born on 12 March
1994 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Trained as a mezzo‑soprano under the guidance of a
father who played church music, Maria BC began writing and recording in her
teens. The debut EP Devil's Rain (2021) introduced the artist’s ambient folk
aesthetic, with the title track earning praise from Pitchfork. In 2022, the
album Hyaline was released on Father/Daughter Records, later highlighted by
