Marc Cohn was born on 5 July 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio, and emerged as a singer,
songwriter, and guitarist. After studying at Oberlin College and later at the
University of California, Los Angeles, he began performing in local venues and
writing songs while still a teenager. His breakthrough came with the single
"Walking in Memphis" in 1991, which peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Pop
Charts and earned him a Grammy Award for Best New Artist that same year. The
track established Marc Cohn’s reputation as a thoughtful, melodic songwriter.
