Mark Charig is a British jazz trumpeter and cornetist. Born Mark Bloomfield, he
began a career in the late 1960s with groups including Bluesology, Soft Machine,
and the Centipede big band. Charig contributed to several King Crimson albums,
featuring as a soloist on the title track of Islands (1971) and appearing on
Lizard (1970) and the track “Fallen Angel” (1974) from Red. In the mid-1970s, he
performed with the group Red Brass and the Brotherhood of Breath. Solo
