Luis Enrique Mejía López was born on 28 September 1962 in Madriz, Somoto,
Nicaragua, and is known as a singer and songwriter. Growing up in a family of
musicians, he initially performed folk music before moving to Miami, where he
joined the Latin folklore group Ayer es Hoy and was discovered by Sony Music.
His debut album Amor de Medianoche was released in 1987, but it was not until
his relocation to Puerto Rico that he achieved mainstream success, producing
five salsa albums between 1989 and 1991, including Luces del Alma and Los
