Louis Stewart, born on January 5, 1944, in Waterford, Ireland, was an Irish jazz
guitarist. He began playing guitar at age thirteen and started his career
performing in Dublin showbands. In 1968, he won the award for most outstanding
soloist at the Montreux Jazz Festival, leading to collaborations with Benny
Goodman and a move to London where he recorded his subsequent albums. Throughout
the mid-1970s, Stewart worked extensively with George Shearing, touring
