his contributions to African jazz and world music. He taught himself to play the
guitar at a young age and began his career in the 1970s, fronting various bands
in Zimbabwe where he blended American and Zimbabwean musical influences.
Mhlanga's early collaborations included working with notable acts such as Shaka,
