Louis Armstrong and His Hot Seven was a jazz studio group organized to make a
series of recordings for Okeh Records in Chicago, Illinois, in May 1927. The
ensemble featured Louis Armstrong on trumpet, Johnny Dodds on clarinet, Lil
Armstrong on piano, Johnny St. Cyr on banjo and guitar, Baby Dodds on drums,
Pete Briggs on tuba, and John Thomas on trombone. Across five sessions from May
7 to May 14, 1927, the group recorded twelve sides, including "Willie the
Weeper", "Wild Man Blues", "Twelfth Street Rag", and "Potato Head Blues", the
