Often regarded as pioneers of the cumbia sonidera genre, which combines
accordion-driven melodies with a more modern, synth-based sound, Los Ángeles
Azules went on to become one of the biggest names in the Mexican cumbia scene.
Strictly a family affair, the group was formed in 1980 by the Mejía Avante
siblings: Elías, Alfredo, José Hilario, Jorge, Cristina, and Guadalupe. They got
their start playing in weddings, baptisms, and local festivals, and made their
official recording debut in 1982 with the album Ritmo... Alegría... Sabor! (Vol.
