Leroy Smart, born in 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican musician known for
his contributions to reggae and world music. Orphaned at two years old, he
attended the Alpha Boys Catholic School where he learned singing, drumming, and
dancing. His first single, "It Pains Me", was released in 1969, followed by
"Shame & Pride" in 1970. Smart's breakthrough came with "Mother Liza" in 1973,
leading to a prolific collaboration with producer Bunny Lee. He began producing
