Leonard Sumner, an Anishinaabe singer-songwriter from Canada, was born in Little
Saskatchewan First Nation, Manitoba. He began his music career with the release
of his debut album Rez Poetry in 2013. In 2018, he released Standing in the
Light, which earned him a Juno Award nomination for Indigenous Music Album of
the Year at the Juno Awards of 2019. Sumner is based in Winnipeg and is married
to writer Tasha Spillett-Sumner; they welcomed their daughter, Isabella, in
March 2020. His music blends elements of country, folk, and hip-hop.
