Lenny Kusikoff, known professionally as Lenny Kaye, was born on
December 27, 1946, in Manhattan, New York. Raised in Washington Heights, he
played accordion as a child, later studying American history at Rutgers. Lenny
Kaye released his first single, "Crazy Like a Fox", as Link Cromwell in 1966.
Lenny Kaye co‑authored the seminal 1972 anthology Nuggets. He became a key
collaborator with Patti Smith, producing her debut single and contributing to
