Lem Winchester
Lemuel Davis Winchester, who was born on March 19, 1928, in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, was an American jazz vibraphonist and composer. After playing
tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, and piano, he switched to the vibraphone.
He worked as a police officer in Wilmington, Delaware. His career grew after he
was featured at the Newport Jazz Festival in June 1958. On October 8, 1958, he
recorded his debut album, Lem Winchester and The Ramsey Lewis Trio Perform A
Tribute To Clifford Brown (1958), which was issued by Argo Records and featured
covers of the songs "Jordu" and "Joy Spri...
