LaVerne Butler is an American jazz singer. Influenced by Nancy Wilson and Sarah
Vaughan, she studied music at the University of New Orleans. Her early career
included collaborations with Alvin Batiste, Ellis Marsalis, Henry Butler, and
James Black. In 1992, Butler released the debut album No Looking Back on Chesky
Records, featuring Joe Henderson. She moved to New York City in 1994, where she
studied under Jon Hendricks while performing in Manhattan jazz clubs. Notable
