Larance Norman Marable (born 21 May 1929 in Los Angeles, California, died
4 July 2012 in Manhattan, New York), known as Lawrence Marable, was an American
jazz drummer and composer who grew up in a family of musicians but was largely
self‑taught. In the 1950s he played with visiting artists such as Dexter Gordon,
Charlie Parker, and Zoot Sims, and recorded his first leader session in 1956,
releasing the album Tenorman. Lawrence Marable collaborated with George
Shearing, Chet Baker, Milt Jackson, and others, appearing on recordings like
Chet Baker Big Band (1956) and Talkin' & Walk...
