Lance Hayward
Lancelot Henry Stuart Hayward, born on June 17, 1916 in Bermuda, was a jazz
pianist who became blind due to juvenile glaucoma by the time he was 14 months
old. He received formal training in classical piano and taught himself jazz. At
age 13, he attended the Perkins School for the Blind in Massachusetts before
returning to Bermuda three years later. Hayward's first job as a musician came
within a year of his return, leading to a career where he accompanied visiting
