La Autoridad de la Sierra formed in 2004 as a duranguense-focused Regional
Mexican group that emerged from a splinter tied to the K-Paz de la Sierra orbit
and established its base in Chicago’s then-booming duranguense scene. The band
moved quickly into recording and released its debut album 100% Autoridad
Duranguense in 2005, a launch that carried them onto Billboard’s Latin charts
and put them in the national conversation alongside the genre’s mid-2000s
