János Koós, born János Kupsa on November 20, 1937, in Bucharest, Romania, was a
Hungarian pop singer. He grew up in a Székely (ethnic Hungarian) family and
moved to Miskolc, Hungary, in 1941. Koós studied composing at the Béla Bartók
Secondary School of Music in Budapest from 1957 to 1958, followed by studies in
oboe at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He started his solo singing career in
1960, performing schlagers by Vico Torriani and adopting the stage name János
