Carol Simms, known professionally as Kofi, was born in 1961 in Lambeth, South
London, and is a British lovers rock singer. She initially pursued acting but
soon focused on singing. Kofi's career began with the Lovers rock trio Brown
Sugar, which topped the UK reggae charts three times with their debut single
"I'm in Love With a Dreadlocks" in 1977. After Brown Sugar disbanded in the
mid-1980s, Kofi started a solo career under Mad Professor’s Ariwa Sound label,
