Alida Kinnie Starr, known professionally as Kinnie Starr, and born in 1970, is a
Canadian multidisciplinary singer and rapper from Calgary, Alberta. Starr's
sound has been described as "hip hop aggro groove." She formed her first band
after moving to Vancouver in 1992. Her breakthrough came during a spoken-word
poetry performance at an East Village club's open-mic night in New York City.
Starr released her debut album Tidy... in 1996, blending rock, punk, pop, and
